- ART SHOW WINNERS EXHIBIT & RECEPTION
- CONFERENCE SUCCESS: “2004: Open the Door” ART SHOW WINNERS EXHIBIT & RECEPTION

The NYSACRA art exhibit will take place at the Empire State Plaza's concourse May 10-13. For the first time in five years, the art exhibit at NYSACRA's annual conference was juried. The jury consisted of five people; Mario Obertis, parent of a child with a disability, Rain Rippel, the President of the New York State Self-Advocacy Association, Sheila Carey from the NYS DDPC, Deborah Rausch from OMRDD and Robert Budd, President of our Board of Directors. The jurors selected the top 25 entries, to be invited to show their work during the week of May 10-13. The works will be on display on the North Concourse at Empire State Plaza. There will be a "Meet the Artist" reception on May 11th, from 9am-11am, the day that the Governor hosts an Annual Prayer Breakfast where many state legislators, other officials and the public attend. This year's keynote speaker during the function will be the First Lady, Laura Bush. Therefore, security will be very tight. We are asking the artists, and any other interested parties from the agencies, to be on-hand during Tuesday, May 11th when the concourse will be very active (between 9am and 11:00am). There are no guarantees that the Governor, First Lady or other VIPs will stop at our exhibit, but there is a chance. NYSACRA is working in partnership with OMRDD and the DDPC on this event and there will be a brief ceremony where the artists will be introduced. All are welcome and Congratulations Artists!

CONFERENCE SUCCESS: “2004: Open the Door”

The NYSACRA staff is back at the office following a wonderful week at NYSACRA’s Annual Conference. The conference was a rousing success and a real record-breaker with a total of 943 registrants, 35 artists and 28 trade show vendors taking part. Evaluations tell the story of inspiring and informative keynotes and workshops that educated and entertained. The Annual Excellence Award at the Banquet Dinner honored “Community Friends” and presented awards to those individuals who best exemplify NYSACRA’s mission and vision of community acceptance, inclusion and participation for people with disabilities. Mary Jo Hebert and her family, who nominated the overall winner, Price Chopper Supermarket in Clifton Park, spoke from her heart about the special contribution the Price Chopper staff has made in her son’s life.

We are grateful for our members’ support and would like to express our appreciation to all of the agencies that were represented. We look forward to the 2005 conference and will let you know the dates as soon as plans are finalized.
