DOL
PARTNERSHIP
Kentucky, Maine, Arizona and New York have been selected as the
states in which ANCOR will launch a partnership pilot with the U.S. Department
of Labor to develop a One-Stop model that provides a flow of screened (criminal
background checks) and trained (CPR and First Aid certification) direct support
candidates to providers. This model will bring together the key components of
the DOL public workforce development network, including Navigators, state
coordinators, and representatives from prospective workforce pools, including
Native Americans, elder workers, Job Corps, migrant workers, young adult
workers, and displaced workers. If successful, the model will be launched
nationwide, which would amount to a significant achievement in meeting the goals
of the ANCOR National Advocacy Campaign and a number of NYSACRA’s workforce
goals as well.
ANCOR is now listed as one of DOL's Business Partners on its Career One Stop web
site. DOL also announced this and showed the site during their presentation at
the ANCOR New Orlean's conference. It is significant that the logo appears
alongside major U.S. corporations. There are no other national trade
associations listed. I would encourage you to visit the site at
www.dol.gov. Go to the Career One Stop Service Locator site.
NYSACRA will be working with ANCOR on this initiative and hosting a meeting to
learn about the objectives of the pilot and to determine how the pilot will be
structured. There will also be a team developed (of around 10) that will
reflect HR expertise, that will be a liaison between ANCOR and DOL. One city in
each state will be selected for the pilot and it needs to be strongly
supported. Please let Ann Hardiman (

or Joe Macbeth (

know if you are interested in attending a planning meeting and whether your city
may potentially be a pilot site and/or if your agency is strongly connected to a
One-Stop.
DON’T MISS THIS YEAR’S ART EXHIBIT!
For the fifth consecutive year during its Annual Conference, NYSACRA will
present an exhibit of art by people served and supported by NYSACRA member
agencies. This year, we will be showing more than 300 pieces of work by more
than 150 artists from across the state, many of whom will be on-hand during
the April 22nd exhibit, made possible by a grant by the New York
State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC). Once again, there will
be musical performances by Potential Unlimited Productions - so don’t forget to
stop by Shelving Rock Terrace from 4-7pm on Thursday afternoon, April 22nd
to join the festivities. Much of the art will be displayed on our website after
the conference. We are grateful to our members for supporting these wonderful
artists.
ANNUAL EXCELLENCE AWARD – “COMMUNITY FRIENDS"
NYSACRA’s
call for nominations for those individuals who exemplify the kinds of community
relationships we strive for brought us many wonderful stories. At NYSACRA’s
annual conference banquet, Wednesday, April 21, we will honor the commitment and
spirit of those community friends.
