Health Insurance Cost Sees Another Double-Digit Increase
Premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance rose at nearly five times the rate of inflation this year, the fourth consecutive year of double-digit increases, according to the annual survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Education Trust. The survey showed that premiums for coverage in 2004 increased and average of 11.2%, down slightly from last years’ 13.9%. According to Drew Altman, president and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation, “The cost of family health insurance is rapidly approaching the gross earnings of a full-time minimum wage workers. “ The full report is available at the Kaiser Family Foundation website at www.kff.org. Coincidently, the NYSACRA health insurance advisory group met yesterday to review the draft report done by Dr. Niev Duffy at the JFK Institute at CUNY. The report will be presented at the NYSACRA Leadership Conference on October 8th at Gideon Putman in Saratoga.
You Must Use New Voter Reg Forms
NYSACRA encourages agencies to conduct Voter Registration campaigns in your agency and community. Recently NYSACRA sent out its 2004 Voter Registration Guide, which included the new Voter Registration form. In NYSACRA’s August 18, 2004 News & Views, we reported on the new State Law requiring ID for mailed-in voter registration forms, on box #9 of the new form. Please discard your old forms and use only this new form, or it will be rejected and you will not be able to vote. Also, please bring ID to the polls even though it may not be checked; you wouldn’t want to jeopardize your right to vote. For self-mailing forms, contact your County Board of Elections.
