SEPTEMBER 12TH BUDGET EXTENDER PASSED

The New York State Legislature passed an emergency spending measure intended to pay for services through September 12th.  Although they failed to pass an agreement that meets the court ordered increase to educational services by the July 30th deadline, the lawmakers did pass a bill received from Governor Pataki that would add $740 million in aid for school districts statewide for the coming fiscal year, new money that will begin to flow once an overall state budget is enacted.  The state budget is now 121 days late.  The lawmakers passed the stopgap bill to parcel out $23.2 billion more in emergency spending to keep core state operations going and avert a government shutdown.  Their action means they have now appropriated, in piecemeal fashion, a total of $62.5 billion - more than half the governor's roughly $100 billion budget proposal - and extended state spending through nearly six months of the fiscal year that began April 1.  State Legislators now return to their home districts to continue campaigning for the elections.  All State Assembly and Senators are up for re-election this year.  This is great time to schedule a meeting with them.

REMINDER – US CONGRESS ON BREAK UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7TH

Congress has recessed until September 7th, the week before the Primary Elections on September 14.  This would be a great time to schedule a meeting with your Congressional Representatives and our two U.S. Senators.  They will be in their districts campaigning during this period.  All your Congressional Representatives are up for re-election as is U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.  The General Election is Tuesday, November 2nd.
