STATE & FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The NYS Legislature will not be coming back again this year, unable to reach agreements on any outstanding bills.  Most significant for providers is the chapter amendment to the background check law that will not get done.  In addition, the U.S. Congress has failed to come to agreement on its final spending plan and will likely postpone the debate until next year.  Currently, the federal government is operating under a temporary spending bill that pays for most operations at last year's levels. It expires on January 31, 2004.
