- Direct Support Professional Resolution Needs U.S. Congress Support & Passage
DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL RESOLUTION NEEDS U.S. CONGRESS SUPPORT & PASSAGE As NYSACRA reported last week, on Wednesday, October 22, 2003, the U.S. Senate approved the Direct Support Professional Recognition Resolution (S.Con.Res. 21) by unanimous consent. Now we need the momentum of the Senate’s passage to carry over to the House—where we still need your help! In the House, the Direct Support Professional Recognition Resolution (H.Con.Res 94) is sponsored by Representatives Pete Sessions (R-TX) and Lois Capps (D-CA) and currently has 42 additional co-sponsors, but only three are from New York (Reps Michael R. McNulty (CD 21), Maurice D. Hinchey (CD 22) and John M. McHugh (CD 23). We want to see the Resolution move to the House floor for a vote as soon as possible. Please Take Action: Contact Targeted House Members and/or your Congressperson: NYSACRA members with the following members of the House Education and Workforce Committee should contact them TODAY! Urge Major R. Owens (C.D. 11- Brooklyn), and Carolyn McCarthy (C.D. 4 - Mineola) to co-sponsor H.Con.Res. 94. Use the sample letter on the NYSACRA website, www.nysacra.org to contact your Representative—just add your name, agency, address and phone number. Email or fax the letter. Contact Your House Member Who Is Not Yet a Co-Sponsor: If your Congressional Representative is not listed above, please contact your Representative, using the sample letter to request their support. You can find their contact information at http://www.house.gov. Please thank those members who have already sponsored this Resolution. If you need this information because you do not have easy access to the Internet, please contact NYSACRA. Remember to let NYSACRA know of your efforts! |
