CONGRESSIONAL WAGE BILL
ANNOUNCED! |
|
NYSACRA's concentration on workforce issues and our
support of ANCOR's National Advocacy Campaign (NAC) are paying off in the
form of a new Congressional bill introduced by Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE) and
Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA), which will bolster wages for long-term direct
support professionals. The bill, called The Direct Support Professional
Fairness and Security Act, is bi-partisan legislation designed to provide
funds to states to enable them to increase the inadequate wages paid to
targeted direct support professionals (DSP) who, under the Medicaid
program, provide services for individuals with disabilities. This
legislation acknowledges, for the first time, the insufficient wages paid
to our nation's quiet heroes: Direct Support Professionals.
Ann Hardiman, NYSACRA Executive Director, attended the
announcement of the bill this week at the ANCOR Governmental Affairs
Conference in Washington. It will be introduced shortly in the U.S. House.
(There is no comparable Senate bill yet). Since Congress is ending session
soon the bill will need to be reintroduced for the new session. NYSACRA
will send you copies of the bill when it is introduced officially, keep
you posted on the progress of the bill and introduce our plans for support
of it.

the bill contact the NYSACRA office at 518-449-7551. |
