NYSACRA LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE ACTION & EDUCATION CENTER!

NYSACRA will be launching its new Action & Education Center on our www.nysacra.org website to provide our members with all the tools they need to achieve grassroots success. Starting immediately, the new action center is equipped with a comprehensive full-service election component, including: detailed candidate bios, voter registration forms, absentee ballot explanations, information about what to bring to polling places, and help actually locating specific polling sites.

By next week you will be able to take immediate action on alerts, legislation, and other issues. By simply entering a ZIP code, members will be able to contact elected officials, allowing you to educate yourself on the issues; identify your elected representatives at the state and federal level; communicate your views to lawmakers via targeted e-mail, fax, phone and hand-delivery via Western Union; and become informed and engaged in the election process. Please visit www.nysacra.org and see all the great services we have to offer.

ELECTION DAY IS NOVEMBER 2ND PLEASE VOTE!

Please remember to go out and VOTE next Tuesday, November 2, 2004. All polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Contact your County Board of Elections if you are still unsure of your polling place. If you are planning on taking people to the polls, please download NYSACRA’s Voting Rights Guide, at www.nysacra.org/nysacra/votingrights.pdf, which details your rights and the NYS Laws that guarantees them. You can fold this 2-page guide up in your back pocket in case you encounter trouble at the polls. Remember, you can use Agency vehicles to bring people to the polls as long as they have no campaign materials. You also have the right to go into the polls with consumers provided you swear an oath to not influence their vote. See the Voting Rights Guide.

FLU SHOT SHORTAGE

Due to the shortage of flu vaccine, OMRDD is asking providers to take action to assure that the individuals who are most in need of the vaccine are identified and receive their flu shots. Some agencies may have already received their vaccine orders, while other agencies have been notified that their orders have been delayed, reduced or cancelled. Some agencies that ordered vaccines through state contract have had their orders redirected through the Department of Health. If you ordered vaccines through state contract please contact Jim Kosakoski at the NYSACRA offices.

Attached is the recent Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fact sheet on Influenza. More information is available at their website at www.cdc.gov .

OMRDD is asking agencies to:

1.) Identify your needs for flu vaccination based on the list of “who should receive flu shots?” identified by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (see attached).

2.) Network with other providers to identify if vaccine is available.

3.) Let the local Department of Health know what your needs are.

4.) Talk to your pharmacy provider about the timeframe and availability of antiviral prophylactic medication.
