STATE LEGISLATURE PASSES A FLURRY OF BILLS AT END OF SESSION
|
| |
Friday marked the last official day
of the NYS Legislative Session, and with that came a flurry of
activity on various legislation, with over 600 bills passed by
both Houses just last week, and almost 3,000 passed this Session.
Of special note was the re-passing of the Medicaid Wraparound
provision for dual eligibles, extended until January 1, 2007.
Other bills included the law creating the Medicaid Inspector
General’s office, the Quality of Care Act, the FBI background
check bill, a $2.5M recruitment and retention demonstration bill,
a bill establishing the burden of proof on the school district in
special education hearings, and more, all of which were passed, to
be sent to the Governor. NYSACRA will provide a detailed analysis
of these bills shortly. Please check the NYSACRA website at
www.nysacra.org or

CMS SELECTS NEW
YORK FOR INDIVIDUALIZED INTENSIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE!!!
|
| |
The Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services announced the five states selected to receive
individualized intensive technical assistance (TA) from the
National Direct Service Workforce Resource Center in 2006. The
five states are Arizona, Louisiana, New York, South Carolina,
and Texas. CMS created the Resource Center to respond to the
large and growing shortage of workers who provide direct care and
personal assistance to people with disabilities and older adults
in the community. In addition to the in-depth technical
assistance awarded through an annual application process to
Medicaid Agencies or their partners, the Resource Center offers:
1. A comprehensive on-line searchable database (www.dswresourcecenter.org)
of resources, current research, best practices and policy briefs
related to improving recruitment and retention of direct support
professionals, and 2. Access to information, resources and advice
from a diverse and experienced team of direct service workforce
policy professional through a national toll-free telephone number
(1-877-822-2647).
NYSACRA was heavily involved
with OMRDD on the development of this grant proposal, an
initiative that will involve stakeholders in an advisory body to
determine the best strategies for recruitment and retention. More
information will be available soon. |
