JOIN THE QUALITY FORUM at WWW.NYSACRA.ORG
The Quality Committee would like to invite all NYSACRA members to participate in our Quality Forum. This on-line “discussion” is dedicated to Quality Issues like recent QA Survey trends, regulatory questions, informed consent, CMS Look-Behind Audits to name a few. It is intended as a way to ask questions of each other, share feedback and network with other provider agencies that experience similar issues in Quality Assurance. It’s easy to use, just go to www.nysacra.org and go to Forums. Let the discussion begin!
NEW LAW CREATES SNF TRANSITION WAIVER
Governor Pataki signed into law Chapter 627 of 2004 which seeks to increase community options as mandated by the Olmstead decision. This new law will help reduce the Medicaid burdens for local governments, since it is generally significantly less costly to serve an individual in a community setting than in a nursing home. The new law authorizes NYS DOH to seek a new Federal Nursing Facility Transition and Diversion HCBS Medicaid Waiver to individuals who may otherwise be cared for in a skilled nursing facility, to include such services as case management, independent living skills training, support for assistive technology and other support services needed to maintain a more independent lifestyle. See www.nysacra.org for links and more info.
MEDICARE DRUG DISCOUNT CARD INFORMATION
The Medicare Drug Discount Card Guide has been translated into easy-to-use language on a new website at www.themedcard.info. People with disabilities who already receive Medicare benefits may be eligible for a drug discount card, while people who are on Medicaid may not be eligible. Because of the complex information, it is hard for anyone to decide if they should apply for the card, and if they get one, what its advantages will be. The website makes it easier. TheMedCard also links to other independent sites about the drug discount card, like the Access to Benefits Coalition site at www.accesstobenefits.org. We encourage our member agencies to share this information with people receiving services and their families.
