SENATOR MORAHAN APPOINTED NEW MENTAL HEALTH CHAIR! Senator Tom Morahan has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Committee. Senator Morahan, from New City, is currently serving his third term representing the citizens of Rockland and Orange counties; he was first chosen to represent the 38th Senate District in a special election in May 1999. Senator Morahan has served on the Senate Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Committee for a few years and we welcome him in his new role and look forward to working with him throughout the year. He replaces Senator Libous who has guided the Committee well over the past decade, during who’s tenure the State enacted NYS CARES, NYS CARES II and NYS OPTS among many other issues and leaves it in capable hands under Senator Morahan. We wish them both much success in the New Year! BACKGROUND CHECK LAW INFO SESSIONSOMR will be holding informational sessions throughout the State on the new Criminal Background Check Law (CBC) that goes into effect on April 1, 2005. The Commissioner’s CBC Advisory Group has met a few times and will be meeting again next week to review a draft set of regulations, a final regulation will be adopted by April 1, 2005. NYSACRA will update you next week on the draft regulations. These info sessions will be held twice on each day to accommodate the expected large audience. OMR requests that you bring no more than 2 people from an Agency. Actual training in obtaining fingerprints will occur at a later date, these sessions will help Agencies understand the law and their obligations.
