·  ATTENTION: DOH RATE PROCESSING DELAY!!

Due to system changes that need to be made by the Department of Health (DOH) to accommodate the conversion to the use of National Provider Indicators (NPI), the Department of Health has asked affected State agencies not to submit any new rates and/or rate changes during the month of August 2008.  We have been told that this situation is only for the month of August 2008.  During September 2008, the rates/prices, that would normally have been sent to DOH for incorporation into the EMedNY system, will be transmitted to DOH.  The identified processing delay does affect the transmittal of all new rates/prices, as well as, changes to existing rates/prices (including appeals and price adjustments).  IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE PAYMENT OF ANY EXISTING RATES/PRICES.  OMR stated that this processing delay is entirely related to the need to convert to NPI and, in no way, is related to the current State budget situation.  If you have any questions, you may contact Joanne Howard at 518- 402-4330 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

·  NATIONAL DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS RECOGNITION WEEK: SEPT 8th

The U.S. Senate designated the week of September 8, 2008 as National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week (S. Res. 613) to honor our heroic workforc e!  This resolution is a tremendous achievement by the ANCOR National Advocacy Campaign (NAC), of which NYSACRA is a strong partner, and is an equally tremendous opportunity to honor your direct support professionals (DSPs) and call public attention to their dedicated service.  It is also a prime time to contact your DSPs, people served, family members and board members requesting that they advocate on behalf of DSPs by calling or emailing their U.S. Representative in support of legislation that enhances wages for DSPs, The Direct Support Professionals Fairness and Security Act (HR 1279).  The NAC PR Council prepared public relations/media materials for your use during National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week; each of the templates has been designed for your input and localization.  Check  the ANCOR website,  or click the following links: a Suggested National Direct Support Professionals Week Activities; a Template News Release; a Template Op-ed/Newsletter Article; and a Downloadable Color Poster/Flyer for Personalization and Distribution.  Questions?  Feel free to write NAC PR Council Chair Lynn Berman at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or NAC Consultant Denise Patton-Pace at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

·  SEAN DELANEY'S "OPEN YOUR EYES" VIDEO WINS ANCOR AWARD!

Winners of the DSP-TV Online video contest sponsored by ANCOR were announced earlier this week and Sean Delaney, a Direct Support Professional from Special Needs Programs who submitted his video "Ope n Your Eyes" won in the "Music & Comedy" category.  As part of ANCOR's National Advocacy Campaign (NAC), DSP-TV Online is a video contest created to give direct support professionals (DSP), families and consumers a platform to educate the public about the critical role DSPs play in the lives of people with disabilities.  DSP-TV Online participants were encouraged to tell in their own words why the DSP workforce is so important, why DSPs are deserving of additional compensation and how DSPs are making a difference. Please join us in congratulating Sean!

·  Employment Workgroup of the MISCC

Back in February, 2008, the Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council (MISCC), chaired by Commissioner Ritter, authorized the development of an Employment Workgroup.  Its purpose is to advise the MISCC on legislative and policy actions that will enhance employment opportunities for all persons with disabilities.  NYSACRA is a member of that workgroup.  The group proposed a vision statement that says, in part, "Individuals with disabilities will have the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from the economic vitality of the workforce.  Employers will view individuals with disabilities as valued employees in their recruitment and hiring efforts."  Issues currently under consideration include better marketing to employers, easing access to employment services, and a comprehensive benefits planning/work incentives effort.  For more information, or to share your ideas, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
