· NYSACRA AND THE OMIG
|
| |
NYSACRA is pleased to report that we had our first meeting with Christopher St. Jeanos, Partner, at Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher, in NYC. Chris St Jeanos is taking on the OMIG issues pro bono for NYSACRA and we have officially retained them. They can bring great resources to bear. Some examples are: Wilkie Farr has great connections, are very highly regarded as litigators and are a firm with a fine reputation. Various members of our board and their counsel attended the meeting for NYSACRA, as well as, Ann Hardiman and Pat McKay. That is roughly our workgroup for this initiative.
NYSACRA is in the process of feeding them information to "write a book" of what is happening with the OMIG. We are asking you to advise us of situations in agencies where the OMIG has stepped beyond the OMRDD requirements. At this point our strategy is not just litigation but negotiation, legislation (not necessarily different than what has been proposed), public relations, etc.
As you know, we all oppose true and intentional fraud and abuse, but that is not what seems to be happening when we are talking about the OMIG. NYSACRA will keep you posted on where we are with this initiative and we invite your comments and any information that you have when your agency or another is confronted by an OMIG audit. · EIGHT MID-HUDSON REGION AGENCIES SAVE MONEY BY COLLABORATING SERVICES
|
| |
The article, "Disabled-services groups pool purchases, save cash," published by The Poughkeepsie Journal, talks of eight Mid-Hudson region agencies and how they've saved money during these tough economic times. The agencies leaders, with the help from the Dyson Foundation, organized a collaborative purchasing plan that allows them to obtain better deals on food, fuel oil, gas, waste removal and office supplies. Regis Obijiski, executive director of New Horizons, took the lead with John Thoman, Abilities First and six other agencies that include Dutchess ARC, Anderson Center for Autism, Cardinal Hayes Home for Children, Greystone Programs, Maranatha Human Services and Devereux Foundation.
