  • CHRISTOPHER REEVE FOUNDATION QUALITY OF LIFE GRANTS
  • Grants of up to $25,000 are available to nonprofit organizations that have IRS 501(c)(3) status, for programs or projects that improve the daily lives of people living with paralysis, particularly spinal cord injuries. Funding is awarded twice yearly to programs that provide assistance through access, advocacy, education, recreation, and technology, among others. Current deadline is March 1, 2011. Funding is awarded twice yearly to programs in three broad categories:

    1. Actively Achieving projects enable people with paralysis to get out and live - ride a bike, compete in sports, climb a mountain, hike a trail, train for a job, play with friends on a totally accessible playground, work out in a fitness program, and more.
    2. Bridging Barriers projects help people with paralysis overcome obstacles to full participation in society - operate voice-activated computer technology, modify homes and buildings to make them wheelchair accessible, help with legal problems, access transportation services, and more.
    3. Caring and Coping projects help take care of both the individuals with paralysis and the people that care for them - projects may include caregiver support and respite, peer networks, support groups, counseling, consumer and healthcare professional educational conferences, specialized training for healthcare professionals, and more.
All Applications must be submitted online through the program website - not by e-mail, mail or fax. http://www.christopherreeve.org/site/c.ddJFKRNoFiG/b.4426017/k.95FA/How_to_Apply.htm

  • NASDDDS AND HSRI RELEASE NATIONAL CORE INDICATOR REPORT
  • The National Core Indicators are a project of NASDDDS and HSRI, working in collaboration with participating state developmental disabilities agencies - the 2008-09 Annual Summary Report has just been released. This report provides detailed state system performance data on individual outcomes, including employment, community participation, choice and decision making; health, welfare and rights covering personal safety, self-advocacy and use of medications; family outcomes, addressing information and planning, choice and control and access to support; and other dimensions such as staff stability and competency, and system performance.

Intended to be used in combination with other quality measures such as critical incident reporting, risk assessment and provider monitoring, the NCI indicators are standardized and risk adjusted to permit state to state comparisons and performance benchmarking against national norms. Many states include NCI data as a core component of their CMS mandated waiver program quality management strategy. Currently over thirty state developmental disabilities agencies gather NCI data on a regular basis and the program continues to grow as new states join each year. You can view the NCI participating states, the most recent NCI Annual Report, state agency reports, the 2008-2009 Consumer and Family survey results by state and nationally, as well as previous data reports on the NCI website, www.NationalCoreIndicators.org. The results of the Consumer and Family surveys for 2009-2010, will be available on the website by the end of February.
